Six in the City |
|
(100 x 100cm 2005)*
A Quilt commissioned by The Quilters' Guild and purchased by their Heritage Acquisitions Committee for their collection. Inspired by the Swiss Re building in the City of London. An Isometric grid distorts to form a curve; close-up reflection and transparency are explored as a response to viewing the building by day and by night.
Stitch manipulation on hand-dyed silks, foundation piecing, bias strip and cutback applique. |

Waterend Barns Hangings
Waterend Barns in the centre of St.Albans, Hertfordshire, is a new venture for the Pub and Restaurant group Wetherspoons. My brief was to create two wall hangings based on aspects of the Roman Verulamium at St.Albans and also St.Albans and it's environs. Both of these hangings are now in place within the two barns.

Roman Walls |
|
(200 x 200cm 2005)*
I am always inspired by the multi-layered surfaces of the wall paintings in the Verulamium Museum and 'Roman Walls', hanging in the smaller barn is a reflection of these. |

Skyline St.Albans |
|
(300 x 200cm 2005)*
The theme of the changing seasons in the countryside around St.Albans, with it's lake running through the middle is the basis for the second, larger, hanging 'Skyline St.Albans'. |

|
(95 x 139cm 2004)
Inspired by the 'Gherkin' building in London, this quilt features a transparent panel in silk organza, with other silks that are painted, embellished and stitched, then quilted on black noil. |

(102 x 165cm 2004)
This map records the memories of my first Alpine expedition. The fragmentation represents life's disappointments and the boot prints a desire to return to the freedom and silent space of the mountains. 'Kompass' map of the Austrian Alps circa 1977 applied to hand-dyed silk and cotton.

(56 x 58cm 2005)
Overlaid and collaged cottons and sheer silks.
Hand quilted. Design, a scaled down section of 'St.Albans Skyline'.
